  • nashwan was brilliant end of story, danehill and the likes couldn,t live with him on the track it dosen,t matter what they do at stud!!! it should be what they do on the track that rates them as racehorses, shergar did,nt cut it as a sire

  • @MrSibelius7 Hi again. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the information. It is much appreciated.

  • @MeMeMeMeMeMeMeMeAndU Hello. It was the 1991 Breeders Cup Mile. I appreciate that Opening Verse and Terimon took a couple of years to record their big race wins, but Terimon was also placed in other Group One races before he took the '91 International Stakes and the point I make is that although they were placed at 200/1 and 500/1 respectively, Nashwan was obviously not beating useless animals, whereas I think his inferior rating to Old Vic and Zilzal took the view (to a point) that he was.

  • @MrSibelius7 Hi. What race in the highest level did Opening Verse win during his career?

  • I seriously dislike this video; seems it only exists to slag Nashwan off. He was a great horse; not the greatest, but a great horse, greater than Old Vic or Zilzal. In his glorious four-timer he beat Danehill, Markofdistinction, Shaadi, Terimon, Cacoethes, Opening Verse, Indian Skimmer, Warning and Carroll House, all of whom either would or already had scored at the highest level in their careers... and it's worth pointing out there were a lot fewer Group / Grade One races in the late 80s.

  • Nashwan was a really great horse and he won handily most of the time so I think he is up there with nijinksky but not as good as say secrtariat

  • But I think the KG for Nashwan was a race to far for him at this point in the season.I think the trainer and the jockey and the owner knew that as well.Hence I think the tactics they put into practice,a slow pace and then they hoped he'd out sprint Cacoethes, which in fact worked.

  • i'd say thats about right. that old vic was one serious horse.

a real powerhouse of a performance in the french derby and then came within a whisker of giving 12lb and a beating to belmez in the kg of 1990. the interesting thing about that race, was that cacoethes was beaten further by old vic than he was by nashwan (over same cd, similar ground, & at level weights with them both) so on that form, you would conclude that old vic was the superior horse.

  • Old Vic beat Golden Pheasant 2 1/2lengths at Chester at level weights!!! So you would have to say NASHWAN did run right up to his form in the Prix Niel and on soft going which he hated.Great point DB15 never thought of it that way.THANKYOU

  • In the Eclipse from the 3f pole to the 2f is immense!! Thats what burned off Indian Skimmer she didnt have the kick to keep up!!

  • Good point why was there a weight concession in a Group race for 3yo colts?
