Taiwan Earthquake 1999

This was put together by friends of mine whom I've long lost touch of. It's the 7.6 earthquake was 30km or so from my apartment. I woke up a meter off the floor from a wave hitting my house. Incredible event and a lot of people died.

No, this was Taichung which was actually much closer to the epicenter. Taipei got all the international press though because they had more hotels with on-site power generation for the aircon :-)

These guys came home to find their house collapsed. Did you lose your house in this earthquake? They did. They lost all their shit. What are they supposed to do? Beat their chests and scream in Chinese? I would say that for a North American it would be pretty odd to react in Chinese. Holy Fuck! Oh my God! etc. seem like very natural reactions to finding your house completely in ruins.

these guys lived around the corner from me. in response to those who are upset by this video, i understand that. but having been there i also understand the impulse to point out the absurdity of the situation knowing that everyone in this building was fine. i'm sure if lives had been lost these guys would not have taken such a light-hearted look at it. they don't mean harm...i bet they don't know it's posted...bottomless posted it, not them. maybe it was not suppose to be seen by everyone.

I was only 5 when this happened. but I remeber it clearly. our apartment collapsed and I would be dead if my dad hadnt come back for me. 7.6 might not seem like a big number compared to the earthquake in Japan, but it's pretty scary to me.

@Monstrance23 Death of "heathens" doesn't impact certain segments of Western society emotionally. Compare Western reaction to this earthquake with that of Haiti, and you know what I mean.
