The extension of the Purple Line at least to the Westwood VA Complex is in my opinion Americas most important transit project, and is the West Coast answer to NYCs 2 Avenue Subway. I cant wait until I can get a speedy ride to Beverly Hills, Century City and UCLA!!!!

@gabe799 this is purple line and purple line only goes underground unless there is a purple line for buses

It depends on which of the AnsaldoBreda A650 trainsets have either the Westinghouse chopper controlled direct current (DC) traction drive motors (Fleet #s 501-529) or the GE alternating current (AC) motors (Fleet #s 530-604).

@illinidee4three In other words, Purple Line trains would take up about half of the standard IND/BMT stations here in NYC, right?

What exactly is the Purple Line? They didn't have this when I was there in 2004.
Are they still working their way towards other places like Santa Monica, or are they still just going to North Hollywood?

The Purple Line is the renamed Red Line Wilshire/Western portion. My thinking is they changed it to the Purple Line to try and reduce confusion (it's still confusing though) between the North Hollywood trains and also for the planned extension to BH, Westwood and SM.

So they really are pushing ahead to Westwood? Cool.

Yeah, they are moving forward with plans to put it on the Long Range Transportation Plan. Metro just wrapped up a series of public community meetings and there has been a lot of support for it. If we can get funding, it's a possibility to have portions running within 10 years. They'll be looking to put a half percent sales tax on the November ballot. If it passes, perhaps hundreds of millions could go towards the project.
