The red lines indicate the breaks between measures. The yellow highlighting gives an approximate indication of where you are in the song. On the verses, the D alternates between a Dsus2 (i.e. an open D chord with an open high E string) and a regular open D. On the album version of this song, there are two extra beats before the first guitar solo. Somehow, I ended up skipping these. I don't remember how or why. If you want a good demonstration of the guitar solo, check out LPSWBB's rendition.
