Hi all,
Today we were out spotting A4 Pacific No60019 "Bittern". No19 was hauling "The Palatine" from London Euston to Manchester, up the WCML. (The return run was handled by a Class 47).
The A4 is seen running 2-minutes late (advertised time 11:10am) but she looks a treat. Running through Platform 2 on the UP SLOW line at Nuneaton Station (Warwickshire), the A4 looks beautiful with her two LNER tenders in tow.
It's the first time I'd seen No19, let alone with the two tenders! Two tenders you may ask? YES! "Bittern"s owner, Jeremy Hosking, purchased the second tender (originally the 2nd tender to what was then Alan Peglar's A3 Pacific No4472 "Flying Scotsman") to go behind the A4 to increase water capacity. The total water capacity is now 14,000 gallons(!!), resulting in less water stops! (4472 is however now limited to her simple 5000-gallon tender!).
Two shots of the engine are spotted from Nuneaton. This first was by me, from Platform 1, whilst the other was taken by my younger brother from Platform 2 (No19's running path).
The A4 certainly wasn't hanging around and I hope you enjoy seeing what we saw of her.
Enjoy!
Excellent stuff, well done.

Great video 5* - I agree with GWRDec, best observed at speed! - Though she did look pretty impressive standing in Northampton Station. Mike

Thank You. "Tornado" will be coming up the WCML on May 22nd, hauling the Cathedrals Express from Euston-Chester-Euston. Looking forward that to that one!
