Just a little montage tribute I made in memory of my paternal grandmother who passed away a few weeks ago, and in honor of my late maternal cousin, who died tragically in an auto accident in 1997 and who would have celebrated his 29th birthday today. My Nana had ancestry in Ireland, Scotland and England while my cousin was of partly Scottish descent. Nana, like me, was an incurable romantic and my cousin and I shared an almost twin-like bond. I hope that up in heaven they can hear and see this tribute. I used the song "The Last Rose Of Summer" (performed instrumentally by Claire Hamilton), from the poem written by the Irish poet Thomas Moore (1779-1852), with photos from the British Isles, rose gardens and some classic paintings, such as Romeo And Juliet, Ophelia, The Lady Of Shalott, Guinevere and La Bella Dame Sans Merci. Enjoy!

'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming all alone,
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone.
No flower of her kindred,
No rose bud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one,
To pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go sleep thou with them;
'Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow
When friendships decay,
And from love's shining circle
The gems drop away!
When true hearts lie withered
And fond ones are flown
Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone!

  • hello, i am not truly a part of megandmeghan, therefore i am neither. however, i am a good friend of both and i have to say that this song is absolutely beautiful - truly breathtaking. i have looked all through itunes and have not managed to find it. if you could would you please tell me EXACTLY how you got this piece? thank you.

  • It's off of an album called "The Magic Of The Celtic Harp" distributed by Front Row Entertainment. I found it in a department store about 7 years ago. Amazon probably has it as well, you may be able to order it through there.

  • I just googled images for Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Exmoor, Yorkshire, stonehedge, castles, gardens, roses, and artwork titles like Romeo and Juliet, Ophelia, etc. And checked out the sites that the searches lead to. I can't remember the site names, but you should be able to find the pics if you do what I did. Thanks for your lovely comment.
