Auferstanden aus Ruinen (German for "Risen from the Ruins") was the national anthem of East Germany (German Democratic Republic (GDR), German: Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR)) during its existence from 1949 to 1990.

Deutschland, einig Vaterland.
Alte Not gilt es zu zwingen,
und wir zwingen sie vereint,
denn es muß uns doch gelingen,

Very very good video! One of the most beautiful anthems in the world! When the two Germanies merged, united Germany should have adopted this anthem instead of third stanza of "Deutschland Uber Alles". Great photos in here, also.I visited in DDR for two years. I had wonderful experience-never was accosted by Vopos or Stasi. I had many friends in FDJ and in Volksschule. I never noticed anyone hating DDR. I did enjoy watching Ehrentag parades and Changing of Guard at Neue Wache in Berlin.
