I disagree with Mark Brog. Single fins are no more difficult to figure out than a thruster (unless you are talking about the "hull" designs). And they are way faster. A slight V in the tail makes it turn super quick. Check out what Christian Beamish has to say about single fin boards....
I learned on an old late 60's single fin in the late 80's. Single fins rip especially if you get the new rakey flexy fins put in the fin box. It drives and slashes when you pump it.
