In a moment of clarity, I realized how effectively advertising works on me when I remembered the episode on discovery channel about Extopia. The Mile High Skyscraper that seemed to be planned to be built in Shanghai, was actually a marketing ploy to get you to do Google searches for words that aren't real. That's right. They had to invent new words like "Extopia" or a new phrase like "Mile High Skyscraper" to track pay per click advertising on Google. It's brilliant. How did someone think of doing that? Genius.

  • I saw this TV show tonight and i found it strange that there was *nothing* about it on the internet apart from blogs and articles with these tags... Some sort of conspirasy perhaps. ^.^ But, you're correct it was first aired on the Discovery Channel on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. (Came accross that while looking up about the building, i wasn't sad enough to go looking for the orginal date. :P ).

  • @frogrulz I really want to check out that show again but it's impossible to find. Every time it airs somewhere in the world, I get a jump in views to my video. That's cool and all, but it only proves my point.

  • Sorry everyone about the links on the right side. I guess ectopia is the closest keyword and...damn. That's terrible.

  • man, i am watching this extopia on discovery right now, you got a point, the only search result i found was this video !!! brilliant ad man!! your on a point!!

  • I thought I was crazy. You found nothing on Google about it, right? Same here. Is that even possible?

  • But do they invent entire television shows to increase keyword awareness? That's my question.

  • type in xtopia into wikipedia and ull find it

  • the show is mega engineering. this guy sounds retarded.

  • ya i seen it at de wkend der on quest, its mega engineering. from what i picked up from it is a bunch of wacky engineers with little to do coming up with an futurestic unrealistic idea.

ive been thinking about it since, it would be a cool building and posible but just not feasible in todays world..

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!! the show s name is megastructure or construction XXL. i ve seen last night on NAT GEO ..i love this project which seems imposible . 1600 m hight ohohoh.then the google search and nothing and then YOUUUUUUUUUU and your nice video .maybe you are the creator of this scam ehehh oh sorry ..!! i am going to far .. what a genius !!! extopia = utopia same same but different.. awareness is the key ..

  • Also, I noted that they kept repeating the word "Extopia" or "Estopia" almost too excessively... I thought! That's why everyone remembers it! It got stuck to my subconscious! Annoying but genious!

  • I thought I was getting MAD!!! I told my partner about this and he told me that I might have dreamt it as it was late at night (Sun 1st May 2011 - 23:00, UK) Thank you for the video, I can rest now knowing that I am not mad/dreamt about it!!!

  • i am sitting here watching it, its called "mega engineering" on a channel called Quest. Its totally made up , i did exactly the same and goggled it, Its a waste of time. I think there just trying to fill air time, i think its too much money to make a program to sell rubbish. You make a good point.

  • I have also searched relentlessly for any sort of video on the awesome building i watched on Discovery channel but couldnt find anything apart from this.. Its a shame how cool Engineering ideas or inventions like that never get recognised enough to be shared on the internet..

  • Hi there am watching this now on quest. And was gutted to find out this information. Pathetic people doing that. Thanks for your vid man very informative.
