My first railway trip for 2010 was the Severn Valley Railway, 2010 is the Great Western Railways 175th Anniversary and what a great place to kick this very special year off!!

The Severn Valley Railway had a Festive Season Timetable on and up to three steam locomotives were to be working over the line, these locomotives were

GWR 2-6-2T 5101 'Large Prairie' Class number 5164
LMS 2-6-0 5MT 'Stainer Mogul' Class number 42968
BR(M) 2-6-0 4MT Class 'The Flying Pig' number 43106

It had been hoped 6695 could run who was visiting from the Swanage Railway but sadly she didnt so 42968 was placed on her trains instead, also the day would have been another good chance to see newly restored The Flying Pig!
I spent the day with JBTEvans and we both did a day with a mixture of riding and a bit of linesiding, the trains we were on

1025 Kidderminster-Bridgnorth hauled by 5164
1203 Bridgnorth-Hampton Loade hauled by 5164
1347 Hampton Loade-Kidderminster hauled by 42968
1455 Kidderminster-Bewdley hauled by 42968
1543 Bewdley-Kidderminster hauled by 43106

The day was good with lovely clear crisp skies it really brings out the fantastic effects steam has in the winter, in this video we mainly see shots around the stations on board shots and the odd Lineside shot outside Hampton Loade.
It was a good start to the New Year.

Enjoy!

  • Iv'e been on the severn valley railway about 10 times, great countryside views.

  • SVR really is a most professional outfit. Well turned out locos - but not TOO shiny - and rakes of carriages not looking like an afterthought. And how refreshing to see locos on a preserved railway not wasting steam and roaring away at the safety valves. So many seem to over-fire even for modest trains. Well done SVR and a good film here too - loved the Flying Pig out in the country.

  • I love the Severn Valley Railway, I used to go there as a little boy, im 21 now, and boy It takes me back. I would love to go back there again.

  • great video thanks

  • Nice video mate, I liked 43106 lineside and then the part featuring a lot of the mogul. 5*s

  • Love it mate! 5*
