This is a step backwards, not forwards, for cultural awareness. In a place as monocultural as Japan, I'm not surprised, but even so, it's basically a minstrel show. The man's less an actor, more a zoo animal. To the Japanese, his role in the ad campaign is equivalent to the dog's. It's just supposed to be "zany". It's degrading.
