This is both a tribute to one of the great episodes of Voyagers, called "Agents of Satan" (the Halloween episode), and to my favorite musical "Rebecca", based on the book by Daphne DuMaurier.
I used the title song "Rebecca", sung by Susan Rigvava-Dumas (Mrs Danvers) and Wietske van Tongeren (the new Mrs DeWinter), recorded live at a performance in Vienna, 2007.
In the musical, the song is sung by the evil housekeeper Mrs Danvers who doesn't accept Mr DeWinter's new wife after the beautiful and glamorous Rebecca (his first wife) has died and tells her that no matter what she does, Rebecca will always be here and will never let her take her place.
And since Marta DuBois does such a great job playing the murderous mentalist on Voyagers -- thus reminding me of the late Rebecca DeWinter, I thought it's the perfect opportunity to use my fave song for a fan vid ;)

I hope you enjoy it, although it's in German (there's no English version of the show yet), but here's the translation:

Rebecca, Rebecca

At night in the house by the sea
The shadows are weeping
Be careful, be afraid!
For all doors are forbidden,
Locked and guarded
And those who enter shall be cursed and lost
Every room in this house
Breathes melancholy
All things are waiting for her

Rebecca
Wherever you may be
Your heart stays restless like the wild and unbound sea
When the evening falls, the wind sings:
Rebecca
Come back Rebecca,
from the realms of shadows back to Manderley

Nothing you say or do
Remains a secret to her
Be careful, be afraid
She won't let you steal her things
And she'll avenge the treachery
Those who insult her
Shall be punished someday
This house is her home
Everything's waiting for her
Those who loved her will never forget her

Rebecca
Wherever you may be
Your heart stays restless like the wild and unbound sea
When the evening falls, the wind sings:
Rebecca
Come back Rebecca,
from the realms of shadows back to Manderley

Don't do anything to outrage her,
Don't take what belongs to her,
Those who disturb her will be destroyed,

Rebecca / She's gone
Wherever you may be (come back) /She's far away
Life sings your song as long as waves roll to the coast /The dead will never return
Voices sigh in the air everywhere
Rebecca /what once was is over
Come back Rebecca,
You're not meant to be a shadow of the past / Why am I afraid of

Rebecca!

for musical fans:
here's an English demo, but it's a reprise to the main song, not the same one I used:

  • Can't believe I never commented on this one. What a great mix you created! I can definitely see the Marta playing that role. That was such an eerie film and the book of course is great too. I liked the song, even if I didn't quite understand it. :) I like the clip of the moon you used among others in between.

  • @Voyagersguidebook Thank you!! I did this 2 years ago. The musical was all new back then. I still find that song extremely haunting!! And the book is just great. I've recently read My Cousin Rachel, another great book by Du Maurier. Really unsettling, but in an entertaining way.

  • @bluecanvas2 I'll have to look for that book. I've only read Rebecca in High School and that's where I first saw the movie. I think the maid in the movie was the creepiest one of all. LOL. The book's ending is actually a little darker than the movie, but that's old Hollywood for you. Hope you make more videos soon. I always get inspired and entertained by them. :)
