Fairly routine 1990 advert for kitchen roll, notable because it stars the Cyberleader, David Banks, from the 1980s Cyberman stories. In a comically huge pair of glasses. Menacing a fish. Sadly, they don't have him say that Andrex Ultra is EXCELLENT.

Minor update: I've recently been listening to the audiobook of his (rather good) Doctor Who novel Iceberg - surprisingly about the Cybermen - read by Dave himself, and this advert seems vaguely spooky as a result. The sonorous, slightly drawling BBC English accent displayed here is apparently his real voice, or at least his default for performance. Most notably, the 18 years between this advert and that audiobook don't show in his voice at all.

  • He reminds me a little of Andrew Robinson.

  • Oh yeah, Garak. I get that. Although Dave here doesn't usually wear those glasses.

  • It's really thanks to Andrex that fish are becoming extinct.

  • Well, Andrex is a front for the Cybermen, so it's obviously a fiendish plot by them somehow.

  • Brilliant! Love the fact that the compression does make him sound a bit like a Cyberman. I now have a vision of the Cyberleader against the Andrex puppy... most disturbing... ;)

  • It does a bit. Of course, in his day, he just SPOKE IN A LOUD LOW MONOTONE. EXCELLENT.

  • It's a neat party trick to get an empty, straight pint glass and boom into it such quotes as "MY ARMY AWAITS, DOCTOR!". People then look at you, before moving away.
