There can be advantages to having only one. S/he can become quite bonded with you -- you are his/her flock.

Mine all have one another, and I get most of my enjoyment by watching them rather than interacting with them.

are the females just as good as the males as pets? and do you keep all of your birds together ?

Either sex can make a great pet. They have personalities, just like people do. In general, males tend to be more friendly, vocal, and easier to tame. But, I do have several females that are quite tame, and a couple males that I'm relucant to put my finger near. It really just depends on each individual bird.

All of them are kept in the same room, but I cage them separately by sex to prevent random breeding. I let the males out for free flight nearly daily, and the females once a week.

Do you have any females that talk? and how tame are your females.. also are you good at sexing birds because i got told my little yoshi is a guy then someone else told me its a girl. could you please help

@0wn4g3g4m3r I've correctly sexed budgies as young as 3 weeks. But, how early it can be done correctly can also depend on their markings.

@0wn4g3g4m3r I don't have any that talk. I currently have 4 females — Flaxine, Sophie, Cheryl, and Venus. Flaxine isn't tame at all. Sophie will get on a perch I'm holding at night to go back in her cage. Cheryl gets on my finger (and would let me lift her out of her nestbox when brooding) to go in/out of her cage. Venus, Cheryl's daughter (about 3 1/2 months old right now), lets me pick her up.

do you have nest boxes? if so take them out and they'll stop laying so much..

I have a couple but they do not breed, I have no idea why? I got them from a friend and they are not tame. I wonder if they can be tamed now since they are adults?

Should I try to separate them for taming?? The female looks older because she is quiet and sleeps a lot. She is very possessive of her food she has to eat first and he is nice to let her have her way.

My parakeet (which is a yellow budgie with white dot cheeks on each side) acts like your pet bird Spots. My parakeet gets scared to step on a stick that I hand to her. The parakeet is also scared of my siblings. She's new in the cage. She usually tries to go away from fingers that want to poke her.
