During World War 2, Mussolini had violently taken the seat of government, and created his terrible fascist regime. His alliance with Nazi Germany, and his many unsuccessful invasions and ideas are what set it off for the many citizens, and partisan groups were created in every corner of Italy. They battled the fascists and the Nazis, and opened up the way for Allied troops who stormed the peninsula. By the times this had happened, the king had already took a stand, and he had thrown Mussolini out of Italy, and gave Pietro Badoglio the seat of government. Italy immediately declared war on Germany, and the Nazis quickly rushed in to occupy the peninsula. This is when the partisans shined. They fought alongside the Allies and gathered valuable information that broke barriers such as the Gothic Line. The partisans truly saved the young nation.
The song playing is "Bella Ciao," a traditional Italian partisan song, which in this case is performed by Chumbawamba.
