As part of a Brooklyn Community Access Television initiative to train community producers to be producers and editors of Neighborhood Beat stories, eight participants underwent a series of workshops on story, research, production, and post-production. Under the tutelage of Brooklyn Independent Television producers Kuye Harris and Kecia Elan Cole, with support from Carlos Pareja and Lyra Porras Garzon at the Center for Media Education, community producers Jerry Bowen, Gloria Chestnut, Taurus Cousins, Bruce Friedman, James Joseph, Patrick Metivier, Raymond Oakley, and Deanne Williams learned interviewing techniques, production assistance, pitching a story, working with graphics and the Avid Media Composer, and audio sweetening.
On January 30, Neighborhood Beat: Crown Heights premiered on BCAT and explored the community in all of its amazing diversity, from the dynamic Richard Green of The Crown Heights Youth Collective to some street-inspired styles at About Time Boutique.
