I don't care what you do in the privacy of your own Church. But please keep your grubby mitts off the law that rules us all. This is the second time in California a court has ruled that gay marriage bans violate the equal protection clause of the Constitution(s), first state and now U.S. Constitution.

My wife & I were among the 6.4 Million people who had the good sense to vote against Proposition 8. I was so happy when Prop 8 was overturned, I just had to whistle!

I find it unconscionable that $40 Million dollars was spent by the Prop 8 campaign to fund the lies, misinformation, and fear in their ads. How would Jesus spend $40 Million? On food for starving children? Perhaps on medicine for people dying in third world countries? Certainly he wouldn't spend it to defend a word, and he wouldn't spend it to crush the hopes and dreams of people whose only wrongdoing is loving one another. Not the Jesus I learned about growing up...

My marriage happens to be between a man and a woman. But I would never presume to tell you what yours should be, because... well, it's YOURS! Not mine!

Life is short. Don't waste yours trying to tell other people how to live theirs. If you do, you are doomed to fail in America, where freedom and equality always win in the end.

@5onCover Fair enough. I respect your right to believe whatever you want, even if I don't agree. I was raised Christian and am very familiar with the Bible, and I had the opposite experience -- when I researched it, and how it was written, I came to the conclusion most of it is metaphor and myth. I don't doubt Jesus walked the earth--there is enough outside historical evidence of that--but the rest of the details are what I find shaky. Anyway, congrats on a long & happy marriage!

I agree - marriage is very special. I just want you to know, I am not defining marriage, but the bible does define marriage. I thought the same thing you do about the "book", but I am a research junkie. When I really researched the bible, I found it to be true. Two books I really recommend are More Than A Carpenter and another is the Genesis Record (this one is not light reading). We've been married 18 yrs. - 13 yrs. as Christians and marriage is way better as a Christian.

@5onCover Second: Can you tell me why you are attracted to whoever you are attracted to? I certainly can't tell you why I'm attracted to women, I just am. It's how I was created. I can tell you what I like and what I don't like, but I cannot tell you when I "chose" to have those preferences, because I never did choose anything. I didn't choose to like chocolate ice cream more than vanilla ice cream either--I can't tell you why it tastes better to me, it just does.

@5onCover According to your definition, my marriage is a "pagan marriage"--when it is nothing of the sort. My wife & I got married in Vegas, have been happily married for almost 15 years, and it is no one's right to define my marriage or say it is less special or less important than someone else's just because I don't believe in a book with thousands of year old fairy stories involving talking snakes and women made from ribs and polygamy, slavery, pillars of salt, and animal sacrifices.

@5onCover I'm not gay but will try to answer. First: marriage is a legal contract. You can define it in whatever religious terms you want, but as long as the law bestows certain rights and privileges to folks who marry, the law must treat all equally. Some gays are Christian but most do not attach any religious significance to marriage and only want the same legal & tax benefits everyone else takes for granted. (And civil unions do not grant all the same rights, contrary to popular belief.)

Hi, I have always been curious why gay men want to marry. Marriage is an inherent biblical union. Since gay people are against the bible, why do you want a bible ordained rite (yes, I do mean rite, not right). Wouldn't a common law, pagan marriage be more accurately define what you are looking for?

And can you tell me why gay men are attracted to men that act like women? And want to marry a man that acts like a woman? Wouldn't it just make more sense to be with a woman???

@WhistlersBrother Citizens for Equal Protection v. Bruning is, indeed, NOT identical (and I am willing 2 bet some that BOTH the 8th & 9th Circuits, AS WELL AS the Supremes, would say so!) READ the damned constitutional amendment of the STATE OF NEBRASKA 4 yourselves! Then read ALL the rulings cited so far. I'm simply not convinced, and ALSO wouldn't FACTS matter (or shouldn't they?) in proving that women "R just as capable in men" in many areas, and that Afro-Americans *R* educable? etc.etc.etc.
