AmigaOS is probably the only operating system in the world you can clear the entire system partition while the system is running. This video shows this unique feature.

  • wow, talk about total control.

Is there any other OS that can do this?

  • I don't know. This is one of the goal of this video. We'll see if someone will post a comment here about his OS.

  • Great feature everyone forgot. However, I love easy backup, where you archive SYS folders as well as installed progs (which are not hudge), or simply copy them to CD/DVD/other partition and simply by restoring files we are back to same exactly same state of OS

  • You can do this on BeOS and haiku as well.

  • @HRHShawnPendragone Yes, it would have work without quitting programs but I didn't test it :-)

  • Sounds like a really pro use type of thing, this Amiga OS thing. But you whet my appetite, I surely should look into it

Well there is a web store

amigakit com but SAM is quite pricy, as well as OS

Most of apps are free (OS4 depot) but not too much,

its OK for daily use, but will need some more apps for pro use.

  • I thought it was too easy, don't suppose you can walk into your local Curry's (or whatever your local computer store is) and buy one of these, but I will definitely keep it in mind

No, I believe most of OS`s keep files and partitions locked.

However, total control needs smart user. Exactly why I dislike Windows.

No control. 2Gig RAM and instability if I switch off swap, hidden options etc.

You need Amiga compatibile PowerPC board

Find Amiga OS 4 article on Wikipedia, see hardware

  • Do you need an Amiga to run Amiga OS 4.1 or will a PC do?
