  • Sorry CW, but I have to disagree with you again here. You're 'chemically similar' argument between ritalin and cocaine is absolutely bullshit. Having worked in a pharmacy for years, and having a girlfriend who's been in biochemistry and microbiology for years, it's extremely obvious how flimsy that arguement is. The effects of the drugs are completely different. And cocaine is by no means the 'closest' in chemical similarity to ritalin of all drugs. Maybe of illegal ones, still a dumb argument.

  • Perhaps you're talking about something like Vivance but when I first started taking Ritalin I compared the diagrams of the molecular structures of methylphenidate, dextroamphetamine and cocaine and of the three dexedrine was the odd ball. Look at the placement of the nitrogen.

  • Comparing the right to use drugs to the right to reproduce is stepping a bit far there don't you think?

  • They come down to the same basic thing which is the ability to control what happens to ones own body. If you don't control that what could you possibly hope to control?

  • the only way we can ever have the right to change our brain chemistry safely is if we have the right to grow our own. There should be no illegal plants or animals.

  • Yeah a good friend of mine refers to the current drug laws as the reverse endangered species act. It's totally nonsensical to try to eradicate a plant, especially one with so many benefits.

  • your have a chat head!

  • I'm mixed on this issue. We currently allow some intoxicants but the line is way too finely drawn. Weed, got no problem, I don't smoke anything (legal or otherwise) but someone wants to get a buzz, I think if it on the level of a few beers.

Do we have a societal interest in trying to keep someone from shooting up heroin all day? Yeah, I think so. I think the benefit to harm ration swings pretty far to contemplate.

Crime would go down if you legalize everything...but it's scary.

  • I'd rather turn drug dealers into honest productive farmers than pay to have caged and tormented. The Native American church seems to have a good solution. Would you give up Sundays for your sacrament.

  • The most obscene drug war policy has been spraying roundup over the rain forest to eliminate coca plants. Especially since most of us consume coca extracts in our food which are bought from the same countries. It really makes my skin crawl when anyone tries to imply that ending the drug war just isn't a priority.

  • Comparing diagrams doesn't make you a biochemist. Methadone and heroine are almost chemically exact, which is why methadone is used to help heroine addicts kick the habit, but the effects are extraordinarily different. You're comparison just seems ill informed and slightly dangerous.

  • agree--strongly

  • let`s say you run marathon, eat wise, sleep much, do arts and volunteer much. you try to stay healthy clever and wise and meditate 24/7,

where and/or what would you be? wouldn`t live be harrd ebough?

try hard to get off any drugs, that is the new dimension, expecting you.
