Some people may not know the great quotes of early leaders such as Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. You may not know that Brigham Young taught that MONOGAMY was evil and that this practice was the downfall of humanity. As President Hinkley said in a 60 minutes interview: "I'm not sure that we teach that.. ". about the "God was once a man." doctrine taught by early leaders. Please find your own wonderful, lesser known quote and share it here. By the way, many people might also ask why so many quotes from Journal of Discourses? Because the church is now trying desperately to distance itself from these early mor(m)on leaders. Try looking at your new church manuals... do they reference the J.O D.? anymore?? The Journal of Discourses, as a body of work, is not doctrinal. And most anti-Mormons have no clue about what constitutes official LDS doctrine. Too lazy to find out, I guess.
