Cpl. Antonio Mendoza, USMC 1983-2005
Cpl Paul Holter III, USMC 1983-2005
Sierra Battery 5/11... Ist Marine Division I Marine Regiment
Marine Cpl. Antonio Mendoza died June 3rd at Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio, of wounds sustained Feb 22 as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Ramadi, Iraq.
"Mendoza",
The time that I got to know you was short, but special... I remember when you volunteered to leave Tango Btry in order to deploy with us (Sierra Btry). I'll never forget the life and spirit you brought to our Battery in such a short period of time. I have two very specific memories with you that I hold very near and dear to my heart. The first memory is in regards to the countless amount of times that you would walk by me as a LCPL and yell at the top of your lungs "ERRRRRR CPL. Hubby!!!" After the first time you yelled that, I knew you were going to be a leader with Sierra Btry... *you were promoted to CPL a short time later*
Antonio, you were the life of the group and a true leader.... Inspirational on so many different levels... Thank you for you leadership!
The second memory I have with you is when I carried you to your final resting spot. Thus far, it's been the hardest thing that I've ever had to do. Antonio, I know you're in heaven making people smile and feel good just as you did when you first came into my life.

Marine Cpl. Paul Holter III died due to a non-combat related incident at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 11 Marine Regiment , 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force.
"Paul,
I remember the countless hours we spent (On the USS Duluth) talking about whether or not there was a God or not. Those deep and meaningful conversations that we had will stay with me forever. I know you're in a better place looking down on myself and other people who you've impacted so tremendously. I can see you in heaven tossing me one of your infamous "one liners" that make everyone crack up laughing! I have not forgotten you brother. I wear your "hero" bracelet in your honor to this day. And I have taken up a profession that you told me you wanted to start after the Corps.... My time in the academy was spent striving for success in your honor. That one was for you! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you... This will remain true until the day that I join you in heaven.
