Due to awful floods around the Whiteheaven, Cumbria area. DRS (Direct Rail Service) saw DfT (Department for Transport) paying them to run special Floodex trains from Marpyport - Workington due to a road bridge being knocked down from the floods enabling most people to cross towards Maryport and Workington. Northern Rail also provided services to/from Carlisle and Barrow/Lancaster but running every 2 hours. This shuttle service was free of charge which saw plenty of rail enthusiasts taking the advantage to ride behind one of there favourite DRS locomotives. on 17th Feburary 2010, DRS used there 47501 (which has been seen on alot of the Floodex workings) and 57003 using 3 DRS mk3s plus a mk2 guard coach. These shuttles constantly called at Maryport - Flimby - Workington North and Workington every 30 minutes each way. DfT will continue to pay DRS until late May (22nd May 2010) when the bridge is able to be up running again. This video includes:
+ 57003 leading the shuttles into Flimby, heading for Maryport.
+ 47501 leading the shuttles out of Workington heading for the sidings where the driver will change ends thus change platforms and sometimes to let normal passenger services cross.
+ We go behind 57003 out of Workington.
+ We go behinf 57003 again out of Workington North (Northern Rails temperelily station next to where the bridge had collapsed.
+ 47501 leads the shuttle out of Maryport heading for Workington just before the break of dusk.
Anyone who has not yet been on these shuttles are highly recommended by myself. They place on new loco's each time. Most commonly used are 37s, 47s and 57s although you may get 47501 as it has been on most of the shuttles. These run early morning from Kingsmoor DRS in Carlisle and at the break of night, head back to where they shall be stored.
Enjoy :)
