If you get up pretty early in the morning and take yourself for stroll along the beach in southern Goa, you may be lucky enough to catch the local fishermen returning from their night at sea. Part 2 of my Indian travelogue.

  • Sonic- this song is not an old sea shantey; it was written by Cyril Tawney in the 1950's- 60's, during his time in the Royal Navy. Cyril was one of the collectors and writers of "modern" sea music, and a damn good one too !

  • @smeghead1851 , i am familiar with Mr Tawney, one of the most under appreciated artists this land has ever seen, ok, it's not that old, and chicken on a raft was navy slang for fried egg on fried bread, i think.

  • well i thought long and hard about it and i have had that response from others, but it is an old sea shanty and if these fisher folk were English they would probably be singing something similar, once you understand what the song is about, i dare to say it works ok, but thanks for the comment, i know what you mean :-)
