I think Soulja Boy really did kill hip-hop. It was already dying, but he put last nail in the coffin. Ever since Crank Dat came out we started getting rap songs about shoes, smiley faces, and other lame sh*t like that.

Remember, hip hop wasn't meant to be real meaningful or message-conveying. It was meant for dancing. As long as the song has a unique and good beat, why try to downplay it?
His music may seem like a piece of shit to you, but he has two songs that broke the top 3 in the Billboard 100.
Yes, he'll have to sustain his career (to avoid being a 1-hit wonder). But what artist DOESN'T struggle to keep their career alive? Talents like Kelly Clarkson have trouble prolonging their careers.
