Here the adorable Kathy Jones sings her hit single from 1976, "Down Our Street"-

Kathy Jones was born in Manchester in 1955. She joined The Oldham Theatre Workshop as a child as she always had a great love of acting and singing. She began performing at the age of 8.
In 1967 she won Best Female Vocalist in the Granada child talent show First Timers and then the following year was a series winner of the Hughie Green series Opportunity Knocks. She appeared on television in The Good Old Days and in the BBC schools series How We Used To Live before joining Coronation Street in 1973 as Tricia Hopkins. She stayed with the series until June 1976.
Kathy then presented her own shows for Granada Television called Handful of Songs, followed by Songbook and Kathy's Quiz. Kathy has also worked extensively on stage with the Oldham Theatre and The Library Theatre, Manchester and has appeared in countless pantomimes and musicals.
Here in this clip she makes an appeaarance on The Arrows Show, in 1976, and is introduced by Arrows Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker.

  • pure nostalgic drivel- but we would have loved it all back then!

  • @medicdeano & you hate nostalgia because??? I think it's sweet.

  • @chickenindaloo

Did'nt say I hated it- read the text! what I am saying, is that yes, it was very popular to look back then, but maybe not so relevant now- mind you, she looks cute there!

  • @medicdeano Yes , you're right. Now the music is very harsh and filled with hate and anger, made by machines for the most part, so yes, this sort of music isn't relevant these days, at least in the corporate music (see wikipedia- "Titanic") world. LOL

  • @chickenindaloo I have a vague memory of this and it's girls like Kathy on TV who I adored so much. It's lovely to hear such a sweet song about a girl's childhood. I'm a grown guy but it brings tears of joy to my eyes, and when I have a daughter I want her to be as happy as the little girl in the song with the pretty brown eyes :)

  • @Pulsar205 You're so right!!!

  • The lovelyest actress to ever be on the "Street" in all it's 50 plus years.

  • I remember watching this. This is so sweet and pure.

Memories can be a curse as well as a pleasure.

  • @medicdeano its funny how different generations view the past, my parents looked back with fondness, I looked back with curiosity, todays generation seems to look back with derision.

But that may just be the way the media portrays it.

  • She was utterly gorgeous!

  • We had to do a double take to check if she was related to Kate Ford (Tracey Barlow0... boy don't they look alike...
