My high school is doing this year for their musical production, and I'm in pit as a Bass Clarinet. Been doing my research, and I have just fallen in love with Gwen's performance as Lola! She might not fit the stereotypically beautiful seductress in looks, but I can bet you no one could even come close to her acting and dancing prowess! I can only hope our Lola can even come close to capturing Gwen's spirit and talent.

@PatRealtor Indeed Pat. Unfortunately (in my opinion anyway),Gwen was neither sexy nor irresistable, regardless. Fact is, 30 some odd years ago, I was involved in a college production of Damned Yankees. And the woman they found to play Lola was considerably more sexy and irresistable than Gwen. But she couldnt dance or sing nearly as well.

I saw this movie once and have yet to see it again. I haven't seen it on TV since. Can't even find it in any video store. Love this!

When this show opened, Walter Kerr wrote, "A nude statue of Gwen Verdon should be erected in Times Square." This is one of THE great performances.... hilarious, sexy, and so much more. And THE Fosse dancer par excellence.
