f(light) is a contrast of regulated human traffic vs. organic animal "traffic." All the sounds were collected from one intersection. The piece has two sections, which juxtapose the synthetic and the natural. The first section begins with a school bell, which is an auditory control of human motion. It then evolves into a highly regulated a military beat formed of car doors and horns. Flocks of birds sound, but are restricted to the hyper-strict form. This then builds, and moves into the second section, which is far more fluid. Rotoscoped high speed footage of bird flight shows the purity of animal movement. It is then periodically interrupted by human regulation, and finally loses to the pervasive red light (Kubrick reference?).
