  • Harwell was an overrated funny looking bum. Nothing good ever came out of Detoilet!!

  • A couple months back the Detroit Free Press had a nice article about Mr. Carey. He's living in Rochester, MI and enjoying retirement life.

  • Ernie, I was born loving you and didn't even know it ! How could I ? I first had the distinct pleasure of meeting you at a Men's Christian breakfast. That is when I identified I loved you. (Tears are rolling down my cheeks-a mixture of happy and sad tears-since you will soon be with "Our Savior" ). You had come in as a guest speaker. After a doubleheader in Baltimore. To be continued.

  • This is a Lou Gerig moment right here. You not going to get a moment like this for a long time where a loved man in baseball can give a dying speech to fans ever like this.

  • I almost cried seeing this. I am very critical of the broadcasters of today, mainly because of Ernie. It will be a sad day when he leaves this earth.

    Where is Paul Carey now?

  • Thanks for posting this. I live in France, and it makes me terribly homesick and nostalgic, but at the same time takes me back to simple, pure, happy times. What a privileged to have been able to listen to this great man through the years!!

  • I missed this last night. Thank you soooo much for recording and posting it - moved me to tears. Ernie will always be baseball personified for me.

  • Very classy speech. Bless his heart.

  • nothing like hearing his broadcasts of the Tiger games as a kid. Ernie & Paul Carry were like no other

  • Agred. Halwell is so underrated amon MLB broadcast legends from Red Barber to Vin Scully Mel Alllen and more recently Harry Kalas.
