Much like 'Listen To the Mockingbird,' this song is about a woman or girl that was 'taken' to soon whose grave is surrounded by nature's beauty. It was a very popular ballad from 1852 to the end of the Civil War. This song is included on my CD "The Blue-The Gray and Somewhere In Beween" which is available as a CD or can be purchased at ITUNES. http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-blue-the-gray-somewhere/id470555563

  • I would like to say "THANK YOU" to everyone who has commented on my work. Your comments are heartwarming and inspiring to say the least. Even negative comments show that someone is listening! Tom

  • If it had to be labeled, some would call it 'nostalgic' or 'early American.' I would call it 19th century folk music.

  • O land of rest, for thee I cry,

    When will the moment come?

When I shall lay my armor by,

And dwell at rest at home.

    Oh, Heaven! Sweet Heaven!

    Home of the blessed!

How I long to be there,

    In its glory to share,

And to lean on my Saviors breast.

  • 19th century folk it is, ans well done. I am a part of a living history project on women in telegraphy in the 19th century, we love listening to your work as we restore our 19th century environs and equipment.
