This artwork, titled "Clockwork Jayne" is an anthropomorphic automaton. That is, a person-shaped self-propelled machine. "Robot" if you like, not if you don't. It incorporates a clockwork mechanism as well as electromechanical components. It has one axis with no feedback, and interaction only via the wind up key. It is effectively maquette for the full "Coppelia Project" robot ballerinas I am building which have 18 axes with feedback on all axes as well as four channels of input for interaction.

I made this. Auto lacquer on fibreglass figure based on body mould of Jayne Smeulders - prima ballerina of the West Australian Ballet Company. Figure sits on a faceted acrylic mirror base containing clockwork mechanism, motor and battery. Kinetic Sculpture artwork titled "Clockwork Jayne" 2009, exhibited Holmes a'Court Gallery, Perth, Western Australia.
