I wanted to share some essential and favorite art materials that I like to use. Once I think of some more stuff, I'll post the link to wherever the info will be. And never be afraid to ask questions! There are never any stupid questions! :D

Materials I mentioned PLUS MORE! :D

gesso (liquitex, golden, bob ross)

adhesives:
gel medium (i use soft gel matte) (liquitex, winser & newton, golden)
modge podge
glue sticks
double sided tape
sticky dots

For using liquid glue (gel medium or modge podge) you can use palette knives! Or brushes will do, but you have to clean them really well after you're done with them! or you'll regret it!

A note from comfortableshoesstud: Metal palette knives are handy too, and will last longer and clean up easy with some soaking. Sand them to the shape you want, and flexible too. Thanks for the tip, Stud! :D

craft acrylic paint: (from expensive to cheap)
americana
folk art
cermacoat
anitas
apple barrell

Professional acrylic paint: (from expensive to cheap)
Golden Acrylics (heavy and liquid)
Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics
Winsor and Newton
Amsterdam/Van Gogh

Pens:
Faber Castell Pitt
Prisma Color
Gel Pens (anything is fine, really!)
Micron
Sharpies

My favorite white pen:
Uni-ball Signo @ Jetpens.com

Heat Gun aka Embossing Heat Gun! (You can find this in the scrapbooking section)

Punchinella aka Sequin Waste! (that thing with the wholes in it? :D)

  • @zekehooper Adobe color would be a good color. Or there might be a craft paint called "coffee". Glad you tried it! I bet that was fun :)

  • I was wondering if there was a way to color gesso? I would like to make it more of a tan color. Do I just add some coler to it or is there a speacial way of doing it?

  • @zekehooper You got the right idea! To add color to your gesso, all you have to do is add paint to your gesso! Happy painting! :)

  • @nattym Thanks so much. My girlfriend sugested coffee, is it better to use paint or can I do the coffee thing as I like the color it makes.

  • @zekehooper Coffee? I don't know if that's a good idea or not. I guess try it out for fun, but I think the coffee will be too thin to mix with gesso, and it'll make the gesso watery. But give it a shot, I guess! Experiment time! :D Tell me how it goes!

  • What is the name of that black pen you held up Pippens or something? I was looking on Ebay and need the actual name so I can buy it from there hee hee ..your video made me giggle .. loved it

  • @sassysasha27 It's called Faber Castell Pitt Pens :)

  • Agreed! Plus, sometimes you can get metal cake icing spreaders in the kitchen section for less than you'd pay in an art/craft store. I found one in my grocery kitchen section for $2, and they work nicely as well. ALSO, would suggest thrift stores or yard sales for all kinds of cheap, and unique, art finds. Especially if you do mixed-media!!! I have gotten the most amazing, sometimes cool retro, art supplies, maybe not meant for art ;), in these places... and no landfill. ;) Recycle Reuse Reduce

  • LOVE the Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 White Gel Pen!!!! I also get it at JetPens dot com and they sell them individually or in packs of 12. Surprisingly cheap at like 2-3 bucks for one and the shipping isn't bad either, PLUS don't you find it amazing how fast they arrive, especially coming "usually" from Japan! Anyway, had to throw in my agreement on the Signo! I bet I looked in every hobby, craft, super-store (ugh), and office supply stores in Nashville before realizing NO ONE carries them. ;)

  • @nattym the coffee made it a little soupy. I did like the color though. I will just get some adobie colored paint and use it.

  • @nattym You are right. The coffee does make it more satery but the color is nice. I just wish the michaels here sold sketchbooks with menella colored paper, then I wouldn't have to go through this. Bt it is fun. I'll have to get the right color paint and try it agaian.

  • Not fair, you're the 2nd person this week to have quoted that price on the craft acrylics. Over here in the UK even the craft ones cost at least £1.50, which at the moment is $2.35!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
