Kevin Harvick does an awesome burnout (serving donuts in turn 1) after winning the 2002 Nascar Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

  • just a question..who started the burnout in nascar? my buddy says it was kevin harvick..but i just have a nagging feeling it was done before him..anyone have any comments?

  • @bluegrassboy2448 It appears that Alex Zanardi was the first to do a victory burnout in the CART series after winning the Cleveland Grand Prix in 1997. ESPN has a good story about the history of burnouts.

  • @bluegrassboy2448 It was Randy LaJoie who began the tradition of burnouts. He was so thrilled by a victroy in the Busch (Nationwide) Series that he decided to mix it up a little. The burnout was adopted by younger drivers which is why you see more and more drivers doing burnouts. The old school guys don't like it.

  • thanks so much for your help and information..now i can sleep at night

  • @bluegrassboy2448 good question... idk
