  • I remember Guthrie telling his audience that he felt guilty about never writing a Watergate song, and then finally writing this one. He observed that the day after he wrote it, Spiro Agnew resigned. "I've been writing a lot since then...."

  • I am a Vietnam veteran; I was a partner in one of the largest law firms in this Country. My only comment for the President is: Nixon's advisers served him better than Chaney & Rumsfeld.

I agree with the earlier comment. Sadly, the song needs no changes. With the "spying" on our telephone calls, the lyrics about the "cats with the bugs" is all too true.

Well, 1976 is a long time ago. The hurt of those days may be put behind somewhen. But for many those who served that nightmare is quite present.

  • @happyhans21

I agree. There is reason to be seriously worried about Americans' lack of education and knowledge.

  • @Skorpio420

well, for us who lost their older brothers in Vietnam or botched invasions of Cambodia and the likes, it is really a heartbreaking song.

  • For anyone that has a brain to comprehend this song's lyrics, he will recognize that the subject is Richard Nixon and no one else. Don't you remember Watergate? Brush up on your history before you make a fool of yourself with ridiculous comments!

  • I'm not going to argue with someone who has no idea what they are talking about, this is definitely a Bush song as many others on here agree. Obama is focusing on where the war should have been in the first place in Afghanistan not were Bush took it in Iraq...Oh guess what no WMD. Read Cocarat206 and amiller 42's comments they know what they are talking about. It's time to support our president and our country.

  • @DustedPages This song fits Obama just fine. He embraced the government's ability to spy on citizens, he did not work to restore habeas corpus, and he has generally continued and even expanded Bush's anti-American policies.

Obama expanded the Afghanistan war. He had a choice, and he chose war over peace despite campaigning on his opposition to Bush's wars.

This song fits Obama quite nicely, especially if you live on planet Earth.

  • I can't believe mercywarre1728 said this song could be sung about Obama, this is a Bush song all the way. Is this person even on planet earth?

  • ...I hate it when I do that. I tried to hit a thumbs up for your comment, but I hit a thumbs down; I can't find the "do-over" button. Anyway, you should have a plus five.

  • And now you could sing this about Obama. The names change but the politics stay the same.
