His seagull comment was a fantastic analogy about his relationship with the media. He is the trawler, followed by the seagulls in the hope that he will throw them some sardines, or in this case, actions and statements that can be turned into headlines and newspaper articles.

There is no connection really. Cantona was brilliant, he lost control on this occasion and kung fu'd someone in the crowd who had shouted at him. The seagull/sardine quote is him taking the piss out of the media in the press conference afterwards
