  • @01209348 The British were not in the Philippines and, after the PI fell in 1942, neither was the P-40. The only parts of Europe where the P-40 served were Russia and I believe initially in Italy until P-47s, P-38s, and, later, P-51s were available in numbers. The P-40 was not in France either in 1940 or 1944 or during the air war over Germany and the occupied countries.

  • @saulpaulus for the most part I agree. they still served with the british in the pacific especially during the phillipeans campaign and they did serve in europe except they were more specialized as dive bombers that could fight back. and contries up and down the baltic used it into the early 60's.

  • @01209348 Not everywhere. It wasn't used over western Europe because it was a poor performer at high altitude, where much of the fighting was done. It was rapidly phased out in the South Pacific in favor of the P-38 because of its poor range, After 1942, it was mostly used in secondary theatres such as North Africa, China, and the Aleutians. The Soviets were also able to use them because most of their fighting was at low altitude and long range wasnt an issue.

  • @saulpaulus the p-40 has one of the longest build dates of any plane! it served everywhere till the end of the war. and why would you spend that much money and wear and tear during peacetime?

  • Enterprise was scheduled to return on Dec 6th but was delayed by bad weather. I guess God was in on the conspiracy!!!

  • Kimmel also had 68 Catalina flying boats--68!!! He could easily have had a 360 ring around the islands and discovered the Japanese fleet on the afternoon of Dec 6th. The P-40 was already obsolete by 1941. It served well with good pilots early on but was replaced as rapidly as possible.
