His remarks about producers are interesting, since his production of Paul Carrack's "Suburban Voodoo" from right around this time is a perfect example of horrendous over production. I still like the recording though.

He sure doesn't 'write for the charts' anymore!

@RUBBERMOOG "This interviewer is a bit of a twit though." - Ha ha! Excellent!
-
@journeythruthepast Because he's chainsmoking.

Nick looked like an elder statesman of rock at only 35, which he was right here. The Silver haired Basher has always been a realist and traditionalist.
-
Brilliance.
-
I see what he means though....Lowe was always into a fifties type of live sound, without veneer, alot of the '80s's were horibbly overproduced, including punk and new wave
-
I think you'd have to call Nick Lowe a realist.

I think that the depreciation of the producer is a bit of playing along. Listen to The Pretenders' Wait that ended up on their album, and hs production. He regretted losing Crissy, but basically his style was different--much more laid back--might have been unsuitable for them.

Nick Lowe - one of the greatest living Englishmen. This interviewer is a bit of a twit though. Thanks for uploading.
I miss that hair--it had a personality of its own.

First time I've heard him speaking. He's a pretty cool guy. Lots of artists are tools in interviews.
