The Lady and the Unicorn (French: La Dame à la licorne) is the modern title given to a series of six tapestries woven in Flanders of wool and silk, from designs ("cartoons") drawn in Paris in the late fifteenth century, The suite is often considered one of the greatest works of art of the Middle Ages in Europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lady_and_the_Unicorn

  • willmesa1 (1 day ago) I read in the link you gave that the sixth tapestry, the one shown at the opening and at the closing of the video, may represent a sixth sense, like the sense of understanding. Another interpretation is that it represents Love, the Love that appears when the passion of all five senses are overcome.

    What do you think?

    Thanks for your efforts.

  • Love and understanding could be the same. But how to overcome the passion of the five senses? With Love and understanding? Therefore I placed the sixth tapestry at the beginning and at the end of the video. I am searching in the other tapestries, if there are any hints to the little steps, the way.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this.

  • Beautiful video, thank you. :) Happy holidays.

  • I go see these tapestries once a year, they are beautiful. One of Paris's hidden treasures. I've heard various interpretations of the sixth tapestry. I often wondered if 'Mon seul desir' was supposed to be a renunciation of earthly possessions (symbolised by the necklace) in favour of the possessions that we are born with shown in the other five tapestries (the five senses). Interesting too that they show the original medieval depiction of the Unicorn as a goat rather than a horse...

  • The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references he is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful. He could be captured only by unfair means, and his single horn was said to neutralize poison.

    Beautiful video and intresting music...
