Wrong. The Mackinac Center and the attorney general represent TAXPAYERS who are fed up with the cozy relationship between the AFT and those who decide how our tax dollars are spent. The AFT will spend thousands on a GOTV operation to get the "Yes" votes out for that "democratic" election of yours, while no one is there to campaign against them. GRAs will hear only one side of the story and they will have that pounded in to them by organizers trained in persuasive techniques.
GEO is a student organization at UM that includes many GSRAs. They are not intimidating anyone by helping a large group of RAs campaign for union representation, and they are definitely not stopping anyone from voicing their opinion or voting against unionizing. The Mackinac Center and the state Attorney General, by contrast, have nothing to do with RAs or UM and are simply trying to prevent RAs from having a democratic election for their own political reasons.
You mention an election free of intimidation, but the only intimidation of which I've been the subject has been at the hands of GEO. If GEO truly supported a fair election, they would see to it that both sides of the issue are presented. If a vote were to occur today, I think GSRAs would vote for the unionization - but would it be because GEO has a powerful idea, or just because they have a powerful propaganda machine?
UofM is a non-profit institution. Graduate students are work-study student assistants, gaining professional experience through teaching and research. UofM will become a new and vulnerable victim of unionization after the Big 3.
