How to rig an obsidian structure

This would usually work, but i forgot to put obsidian underneath the tnt, so it just blew up the ground below and not the area above, it would still probably have enough force to kill, another trick is to use redstone, put a pressure plate down in the middle of a corridor or room, make the redstone not very obvious, lead it away from pressure plate (which is made by having either two pieces of wood planks or 2 stone next to each other in a work bench/inventory thing) and make the redstone goto a waiting pile of tnt, under or around the pressure pad, also, make sure there is 1 redstone on top a tnt, to ensure an explosion occurs when someone stands on pressure plate
