Wayna Picchu is the big mountain in the background of all the Macchu Picchu pictures. Only 400 people per day during the dry season are allowed to climb the 1500 steps straight up at 9000 feet. We were ambitious or stupid enough to do so. More travel adventures at www.youtube.com/loracain www.loracain.com

  • I completely agree! I was amazed to see a Dad and then a Mother in two different groups of people harnessed up with those metal frame backpacks and 20 pound infants in them. There were a couple of places just balancing my own weight was tricky much less what they were carrying. Since there is a limit on how many people can go up Wayna Picchu, I truly think there should be an age limit of at least 12 but I'm not making the rules:)

  • What amazed me was how many people were heading up this path with very young children! There's one point where the drop-off to the side of the path is about 1 kilometre down to the river. At many points, there is nothing to hold on to, and the steps can be damp/slippery, so you have to be careful with EVERY step.
