FROM TOMMY'S 1977 ALBUM "MIDNIGHT RIDER". WRITTEN BY JEFF BARRY WHO WROTE TOMMY'S FIRST HIT "HANKY PANKY". THIS SONG IS WRITTEN ABOUT BOBBY BLOOM.In the early 1960s, Bloom had been a member of the doo-wop group, The Imaginations, and sang lead on "Wait A Little Longer, Son." Bloom received a big break in 1969 when he was awarded a contract to write and record a jingle for Pepsi, paving the way for his later success with "Montego Bay." Bloom also played a role as a songwriter connected to the Kama Sutra/Buddah group of labels.[3] He also co-wrote the song "Mony Mony".Towards the end of his short life, Bloom suffered from depression.[3] Bloom was killed on February 28, 1974, at the age of 28 after charging into a room in a fight over a girl, and was accidentally shot in a scuffle with a man who was never identified. Jeff Barry was surprised to find out afterwards that he was the sole beneficiary of Bloom's life insurance policy. LYRICS: transcribed by Stephen Laug
Bobby, she left me. Bobby, she's gone.
Ain't thinkin' straight and I'm scared and I'm stoned.
If you're my friend, Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Everything's crazy, truth is a lie;
I don't wanna live, but I don't wanna die.
I don't wanna die, so, Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Twisted and tangled, the web that we weave.
Tighter and tighter until she just couldn't breathe;
'til she couldn't believe. Oh, Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Bobby, I'm losin' the handle.
I want to let go and blow out the candle.
Once and for all let it just slip away.
But where do you go? Where do you go?
I'm so afraid.
I hear her cryin' as clear as a bell.
Here I am dyin' and goin through hell;
No one to tell. Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Bobby, don't leave me alone.
Bobby, she left me. Bobby, she's gone.
I ain't thinkin' straight and I'm scared and I'm stoned.
If you're my friend, oh, Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Bobby, don't leave me alone, tonight.
Bobby, don't leave me alone.
I was totally unaware of this song or album. The only song I knew after 1971 was "Three Times in Love" in early 1980. One never knows what one can find on You Tube.
