This is the first video in a series. I was given a motorcycle that is very rare and the parts for it are expensive. I decided to go as cheap a fix as possible. The gastank leaked so I decided to fix it with fiberglass and this video will walk you through it in detail. I hope you enjoy this, please leave questions and comments.

  • the ethanol in petrol was recently raised to well over 10% at the same time of this increase they also added another chemical to compensate for the higher levels of ethanol, this "other" additive is real bad news for fiberglass tanks and petaseal coated steel tanks, it strips it off, my lambretta tank was petasealed it all dissolved after two weeks of the "new" fuel. clogging up filters etc, the petrol looked like soup as the petaseal started to liquify, BEWARE lots of wrecked engines happeing !

  • @extrastype That sucks. Does Stabil with the ethanol treatment work? Luckily I live in Oklahoma where they still sell pure gasoline.

  • @VoiceO1 no, ethanol can not be masked, here in the UK all petrol now has ethanol, it is destroying old engines of classic bikes etc the engines run hot on ethanol treated petrol anyways, but the fact it breaks down the resins used in fiberglass and petrol tank liners is really bad news, shell & Co all knew it would do this, but dont care, they are in to maxing profits and as 99.9% of people drive modern cars that can cope they are not bothered about public opinion, we need a test suing ! !

  • @extrastype ethanol doesn't increase profit margin on gasoline, but the government makes them ad alcohol because of AWG. Make sure you blame the correct people. It's not the corporations who give jobs and make the work go round its the government who make regulations to make everything cost more and run less efficient

  • Respond to this video... pure petrol that sounds like heaven to me.. bring back 100% octane with lead as well for top end lube, lots of holed pistons, the detergents they put in the fuel here in UK to clean the valves etc also breakdown the two stroke oil we use. so no lead for top end lube, oil breaking down, ethanol destroying tanks/linings its a war man a war !! shell & BP are doing more damage to classic engines than the bloody government who are trying legislate them off road

  • @maphound dont do it.

    Alcohol eats the resin.

  • i am not shour but i think we will meed a respirator

  • Nice job, but... most states are requiring 10% ethanol in their gas these days. The ethanol will dissolve the fiberglass clogging the fuel filter and possibly damaging the engine... and the tank will leak again. Search boating and fiberglass tanks...

  • Nice bike and great job with the tank!

Do you know if fiberglass is an acceptable material to use for making a custom storage tank for alcohol? I would like to build a 5-gallon fermenter for making beer.

  • Nice Job...
