  • What sort of handling or process might be undertaken that would damage the teeth? How did the clockmakers of the 18th century manage?

I have only seen this one video on UTube, but I am a little surprised to see bushing is mentioned in an "advanced" video.

  • It is a cautionary measure when doing repairs to the barrel hook. These DVD courses are teaching courses for those who have never done this before. Therefore, extra steps are taken to protect the work. An experienced person may not need this step.

  • The Advanced course is actually more like an intermediate course. When it was decided to make another course after the Advanced course, the Advanced name was not changed since the name was already established. The following new course was named PRO advanced to indicate a higher level than the previous Advanced course.

  • As noted before, these are teaching courses. The first course titled Clock Repair 1 and 2 is 4.5 hours long. There was not enough room left to include bushings, so it was included in the Advanced course. The Advanced course is anther 4.5 hours of training which includes about 50-60 minutes on bushing. These are not overview courses lightly touching on repair topics, but courses from which people can really learn clock repair.

  • Why should you risk distorting the teeth of a barrel with a hose clip?

  • The hose clip is only applied lightly to protect the teeth against any damage during the next repair project.

  • I applaud your attempt to make information available. I know from training students it is difficult to give them a feel for the job, but I hope you encourage them to find a local clockmaker who will mentor them.
