Why the hell does it matter, in terms of modern physics, who Newton was or who Kepler was, or what kind of lives these men led? it might be of interrest to some historians of science, but it had absolutely no relevency whatsoever, to actual physics, who these ideas are attributed to. If Newtons ideas where stolen from Kepler, then so what, Kepler got screwed over and someone else got all the credit, too bad for him, how the hell does this effect modern physics?

Instead students today are largely being taught a fraud in the name of science.

There are two websites on Kepler there. One that takes the reader through his original work, The New Astronomy. The other through his original Harmonies of The World.

Through these two source works the student can retrace Kepler's own though process, and remake the discovery for himself.

@jacobins3000 It's not intended to give light upon physics in and of itself, this film is geopolitical in nature.These clandestine measures continue. Children today learn how to take a test, not how to THINK for themselves.

Gravity depends on mass. Kepler's laws do not make this connection. Newton's law of gravity does.

The fact that Newton's formula relating the distances and periods of stars is similar to Kepler's description is no coincidence. These two formulae are simply different ways of describing the same situation. The result Newton came up with is not plagiarism, it's beautiful. It shows how two people can take 2 different routes and come to the same answer. It also shows how abstract mathematical formulae can accurately depict the real universe.

This movie leaves so much out it's ridiculous. Newton used his 3 laws of mechanics to derive Kepler's laws independently. He didn't plagiarize anything. Kepler created his 3 laws using data collected by Tycho Brahe and (gulp) simple Euclidean geometry. His laws and models came from observation. Newton, however, derived these laws using (gulp) mathematics. In fact, Kepler's original claim of T^2=a^3 was found to be incomplete for other systems of bodies in space.
