This was filmed in black and white because, when the pilot was filmed in the middle of the 1964-'65 season for CBS' consideration for the 1965-'66 season, they were telecasting ONLY black and white series. After it was sold to the network, they decided to schedule at least half of their prime-time lineup in color for the fall of '65, and "HOGAN'S HEROES" became their first new series to be filmed and telecast in color.

Talented guy! I wish he wouldn't have gone behind the scenes, but looks like he certainly took a few steps up the ladder. He did some great German voices on Hogan's Heroes, and for me, all of a sudden he was gone and a new guy came on the show. Thanks for the info.

(The Late) African-American Entertainer Ivan Dixon became a director by 1971. He directed in shows such as "The Waltons," "The Rockford Files," "Magnum, P.I.," and "Perry Mason" between 1973 and 1986. Does this answer your question? I hope this helped you substantially ... even if I could not help you more.

I was lucky to record most of these shows on Dish Network in the last couple of weeks.
I missed the last two seasons. I joined the Army in 1970 and signed up for two tours in Nam, thus no Hogan's Heroes in SE Asia while I was there.
Sadly, most of the characters have passed away. Man, I liked all of these people. Clary is still alive and has a website. I sent him an e-mail and he was kind enough to send a reply. Great show, great actors... They are missed.

What ever happened to Ivan Dixon? I know he passed away, but where did he go after Hogan's Heroes? I liked his character much better than the replacement. Also, I think they should have made "Kinch" the E-7 and Carter an E-6. Carter was a goof-off and Kinch was more like the professional soldier.

Interesting Opening!! The following pilot episode to "Hogan's Heroes" described Germany in 1942 ... during World War II. Ivan Dixon, Larry Hovis, Bob Crane, and Werner Klemperer were four of a kindduring the show's run on CBS Television. (The Late) African-American Entertainer Ivan Dixon left the show after the 1969-1970 Season. A Fabulous 6!! They will never be forgotten in this world.
Rest in Peace Werner Klemperer
