Perhaps it has to do with people owning too many games, too quickly. (A.K.A being SPOILED)
I used to 'receive' new games after I was long done with the games I already owned, except for the ones I really couldn't get through.
When you receive 2 games a year on average at very young age, you think thrice about what game to include in your 'collection', and your tastebuds are basically forced to grow fast.
