Sukhmani Sahib was composed by the Sikh Guru Arjan Dev. It name means "the pearl that brings you Happiness". It is a part of the Sikh holy book Sri Guru Granth Sahib in which it is in Punjabi.
This version in this audio is the one that's translated in Sindhi. It is sung by Bhagwanti Nawani who was a very melodious and charming singer among the Sindhis in India. Just as the blessed soul who did an excellent job of translation (keeping the rhyme and meaning intact), she too has done complete justice in her recital.
What's very commendable is the preservation of a secular, yet spiritual feel in Sukhmani Sahib. Guru Arjan doesn't refer to the Almighty as "Allah" or "Ram", but as "Sahib", "Data", "Dhani" and other such names. Given the expanse of Sindhi population in India, Pakistan and all around the world, I am hopeful that this composition will touch every Hindu, Sikh and Muslim Sindhi's heart as it always does mine.
