The Trumpeter Swan is a magnificent sight, with a wing span of up to eight feet easily the largest swan in the world and North America's largest bird. While the commonly seen Mute Swan was introduced from Europe, by 1932 Trumpeter Swan numbers had fallen to near extinction with only 69 known to remain. Since then numbers have rebounded due to restoration and management programs in both the U.S. and Canada.
