The 15th night of the 1st lunar month marks the end of the Spring Festival in China. This day is known in English as the Lantern Festival, or in Chinese as 元宵节. While an important part of this day is sending a lantern up into the sky, modern day celebrations in Beijing have been overcome by outlandish, day-long fireworks displays. As fireworks officially become illegal in the capital as soon as Spring Festival ends, people rush to set off their entire stash before the night is over. The result... well, see for yourself.
