Driving Through Schenectady - VALE CEMETERY Youtube user: GMPNY GLADYS and SchenectadyVideos own DAVID TANNER team up to give interesting perspective to places within Schenectady New York. Today we Drive Through Vale Cemetery.
It's a shame how neglected some parts of the cemetery is, even areas with large and beautiful monuments. The people of Schenectady should clean it up and make it into a park to preserve the beauty of the place. Thanks for a great, and informative video!
(Cont.) In a way, I always thought that maybe they did some how MAGICALLY know we were there as we walked among the stones & potted plants & American Flags to retrieve that ball one missed catching or to pick that one flower we had to have. Somehow THEY knew :-)
(Continued) Vale was a place for people of all ages to go & sit, walk, read a book, meet friends, go fishing & yes even sit down by the tranquil pond & have a bag lunch or take your kids to the Vale Park at the main entrance on Nott Terrace. I often wondered as a child if "THEY" knew we were there? Did they feel our presence? Were we as children comforting to those who'd gone before us? That in itself is a mystery. Just a child wondering if those forgotten, if they knew we came there to play?
Dave, you did a great job mixing the seasons as the story of Vale unfolded. Its nice to be able to look back and see the memories of a really great part of Schenectady. Its also sad on the other hand to see and remember some of the vandalism that has taken place in the cemetery. I have nothing but GOOD memories as a child playing in the cemetery all year round. Never felt it was sacreligious or wrong because as kids there was no fear of the dead, it was the living you had to beware of :-)
